BioHack your Way to Better Heath and Performance

Heard the word Biohacking? It’s a buzzword for optimising human potential through biological hacks aka ‘Biohacking’. Here are some simple natural bio hacks you can use to help you live longer and give you more energy and brainpower.

1. Improve your sleep

Poor sleep interrupts our circadian rhythm; our body’s natural clock. Disturbed sleep leads to lots of problems both mentally and physically. Getting adequate amounts of good quality rest resets the brain and recharges you for your day.

There are many sleep hacks out there but I think the most simple one to start with is to try and get a good pre-bed sleep routine. Get off digital devices, give yourself 2-3 hours after your last meal before you go to bed, avoid caffeinated drinks after 2 pm and excessive amounts of alcohol, and try to stick to a similar sleep and wake times. You can check out our blog for more tips on sleep.

2. Get outside in nature

Spending time in nature and just being outside can lead to significant health benefits. Studies have shown it can improve blood pressure, boost mental health, and decrease cancer risk. So go spend some time in the woods or your local park.

3. Meditate

It’s no longer sometimes hippies do… there is science behind meditation that proves its amazing benefits. You don't need to sit for hours in a lotus position, you can simply spend a few moments each day in quiet time, and focusing on your breathing. This can assist you in resetting your brain and ultimately enabling you to be the best version of yourself that you can be. There are classes online and apps you can try. I started my meditation practice with sound baths which was great as you don't have to do anything other than lie down and listen to the noise of sound waves from crystal bowls and gongs.

4. Expose yourself to sunlight

Sunlight gives us Vitamin D which we absorb through our skin. It’s a critical nutrient that reduces stress, helps us sleep better, maintains strong bones, strengthens our immune system boosts our energy, and fights depression. Ever wonder why you feel so good when you come back from a week in the sun? Or have you ever experienced the winter blues? Get out daily for a minimum of 20 minutes and try and expose as much of your skin to daylight as possible.

Dave Asprey wrote a whole book on it called 'Super Human' where he made himself a human guinea pig with the goal every year he grows older to become younger. If you are interested in explore biohacking further check it out.
