Ice baths for injury recovery

I’ve been a cold water swimmer for over a decade and always felt the benefits of cold water. When I can’t get down to the lido or beach for a swim or during the Summer when the water temperature is higher I jump in the ice bath.

I suffered a severe back injury from boxing at the end of 2021 and ice baths have been a massive part of my rehabilitation and recovery this year. Ice baths have long been used by athletes to speed up recovery post-training. I always feel amazing after but the getting in part is a battle. I just have to remind myself the benefits and that gets me in!

Physical benefits of ice baths include:

1. Reduced Inflammation: Ice baths can help reduce inflammation and swelling in the back, which can help reduce pain and speed up the healing process.

2. Improved Circulation: Cold water immersion can help improve circulation to the injured area, which can help promote healing.

3. Reduced Muscle Spasms: Ice baths can help reduce muscle spasms, which can help reduce pain and improve mobility.

4. Improved Range of Motion: Cold water immersion can help improve range of motion in the back, which can help improve flexibility and reduce pain.

5. Improved Recovery: Ice baths can help reduce muscle soreness and fatigue, which can help improve recovery time after an injury.

So if you train a lot or are injured as much as it look painful I promise you it's worth it and will speed up your recovery. Feel free to get in touch if you want some advice on how to get started.
